Most apps want something from you. An email address, a monthly fee, your attention on a schedule that suits them. Utility software shouldn't work like that — you open it, it does the thing, you close it.

Usefulthingsapp builds the second kind. Every app is written natively for both platforms, ships in the language of the people using it, and is designed to be genuinely finished rather than perpetually monetised.

Mental health

Four clinical mental-health screeners — EPDS, DASS-21, PHQ-9 and GAD-7 — rewritten in plain, gentle Vietnamese. Results come with context rather than just a number, and every run is plotted so you can see a trend instead of a single reading.

Answers never leave the phone. There is no account and no server: the journal lives in local storage, an optional four-digit lock covers the interface, and a single tap wipes everything back to a fresh install.

How we build

Four rules, applied in this order

Your data stays yours

On-device storage by default. If an app can work without a server, it ships without one — that decision comes before features, not after.

Native on both platforms

SwiftUI on iOS, Jetpack Compose on Android. Two real codebases, so each app behaves the way its platform expects rather than splitting the difference.

Written in your language

Properly localised, not machine-translated — correct diacritics, natural phrasing, and copy that sounds like a person wrote it.

Finished, not farmed

No paywalls on core functionality, no engagement mechanics, no feature held back for a subscription tier. An app is done when it does its job.
